Oh My Venus Review

Title: Oh My Venus
Genre: Romance, Drama, Comedy
Episodes: 16
Broadcast Period: Nov-2015 to Jan-2016
Cast: So Ji Sub, Shin Min Ah, Jung Gyu Woon, Yoo In Young, Sung Hoon, Henry Lau, Jung Hye Sung, Jin Kyung,

Kim Young Ho (So Ji Sub) is a personal trainer to Hollywood stars. Despite his family's wealth, Young Ho suffered a devastating injury in his childhood, but he believes any problem can be overcome by patience and determination. Kang Joo Eun (Shin Min Ah) was once an ulzzang in her teens, semi-famous for her pretty face and enviable figure. Now a 33-year-old lawyer, she has gained a lot of weight since. After getting dumped by her boyfriend and being told by her doctor that she has health issues, Joo Eun hires Young Ho to challenge her to diet and lose weight.

Wow, did I enjoy this drama? I would say a little too much! Welcome back So Ji Sub *clap clap*! It is the cutesy romance drama I’m always looking for but can never seem to find. There is so many cute scenes, you actually get enough of it in the end (I know, it sounds impossible, but…). To be honest, I felt as though the first couple of episodes were somewhat boring. However, I stuck with it because So Ji Sub is one of my favorites, and after that I fell in love with the cast as a whole and the storyline. It picked up later on in the drama, and the unfolding situations made me holding my breath every week. The last three episodes though, were kind of drama-free, (The writers may have run out of ideas) so it was pretty much focusing on the relationship and chemistry between the leads. All in all a very nice drama, not my favorite though, but a recommendable one! It’s funny how two of the most talked about dramas (this one and She Was Pretty) from the end of 2015 are both about turning pretty again.

My Love, My Bride Movie Review

Title: My Love, My Bride
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Origin: Korea
Release Date: October 8, 2014
Cast: Jo Jung Suk, Shin Min Ah, Yoon Jung Hee, Bae Seong Woo, Ra Mi Ran, Jeon Moo Song, Lee Si Eon, Seo Kang Joon

The story of an ordinary Korean man, Yong Min (Jo Jung Suk), and an ordinary Korean woman, Mi Young (Shin Min Ah), who finally tied the knot after a 4 years relationship during which they dreamt about their future life as new-weds. They thought they would only be happy forever but gradually find out about what a marriage really means.

Just watched it. First off, I only watched this because of Jo Jung Suk, I have been really interested in him after I watched You’re The Best Lee Soon Shin last year. He really is a talented actor, well of course when he is a musical actor… Anyways, It's nothing much special. The story is quite realistic and I like that, but it's really common in marriage movies and even dramas as well. There are few parts where I didn't like their acting. Like when crying, it doesn't seem natural. I like the lesson of the movie though. Good watch if you're looking for something cute to watch, or curious what a married life is like, then give this a try.

A Love To Kill Review

Title: A Love To Kill
AKA: This love I want to kill / The love of death / Knock out by love
Genre: Romance, Melodrama
Episodes:  16
Broadcast period: 2005-Oct to 2005-Dec
Cast: Rain, Shin Min Ah, Kim Sa Rang and Lee Ki Woo.

Cha Eun Seok (Shin Min Ah) is a rising superstar with a sad past and dominant family. She had fallen in love with Kang Min Goo (Kim Young Jae) a poor mechanic, who one day suddenly disappeared. After she gets drunk one night and son of a chairman Kim Joon Sung (Lee Ki Woo) tries to help her, a misunderstanding occurs and the two are filmed and gone viral. In order to save her image and his reputation, Joon Sung announces that they are getting engaged, even though Eun Seok refuses, her family pressures her to.
Kang Bok Goo (Rain) a poor kick-boxer, and also Min Goo’s younger brother, lives together with his trainer and his mother in a small house. Also livening there is Han Da Jung (Kim Sa Rang) his “girlfriend” who once before in order to save Bok Goo threw herself in front of a burning log - leaving her scarred with burns. Feeling guilty and responsible, he has sworn to take care of her. After not seeing his brother for 10 years because of a fall out, they finally meet again, only for Bok Goo to see his brother jump from a building, and end in an vegetable state.
Looking through Min Goo’s things, Bok Goo realizes that Min Goo and Eun Seok had a past together, which infuriates him thinking his brother would try killing himself for a ‘bitch’. Seeing that she is living as if nothing is wrong, he decides to take revenge on her - if she can’t be with her brother, she is going to be like him - so he becomes her bodyguard. The two spend time together, and the two slowly fall in love with each other…

The beginning was good, but somehow it just became bad and long, not to mention the bad ending. I have to admit that I liked Rain and Shin Min Ah, but the drama is just too heavy for my taste. Too many things at once, too much crying, too much sworn vengeance... Too much of everything, just not enough love. It’s funny because I like the writer (Sorry I Love You, Thank You, Nice Guy), but then again, heavy dramas with shitty ends. Okay… I don’t know whether or not I recommend it, but it has Rain in it, one of his good dramas (not a fan of Fugitive honestly), but still heavy.

Arang and the Magistrate Review

Title: Arang and the magistrate
AKA: Arang / Arang Magistrate Story / Arang: Magistrate’s Chronicle
Genre: Historical, Comedy, Romance
Episodes: 20
Broadcast period: 2012-Aug to 2012-Oct
Cast: Lee Jun Ki, Shin Min Ah, Yun Woo Jin and Yoo Seung Ho.

“The time was the middle of the Joseon period. Man's ambition reached far extremes, the world became chaotic, and nature became distressed. In the midst of such chaos, the boundary between this world and the world beyond ceased to exist. The dead stayed to roam about freely. The ghosts of the dead can see the living, but the living cannot see the dead. However, there was one man who was able to see ghosts. In search of his mother, who disappeared three years ago, he sets out for Miryang.” (taken from the introduction)
While looking for his missing mother in the mountains, Kim Eun Oh (Lee Jun Ki) meets a ghost called Arang (Shin Min Ah), whom he pretends not being able to see. He is used to being asked favors from ghosts since he’s able to see them, so he pretends not to hear nor see them. Arang tells him her story thinking he doesn’t hear her, of her waking up as an ghost on her way to the Styx River(on the way to the afterlife, the dead must cross the river), not remembering who she is and how she died, she manages to run away.
Later on she realizes that he is able to see ghosts, so she decides to make him into a Magistrate of the very city he is in, without him knowing it. Eun Oh, now a magistrate, refuses to help her, until he notices a hair pin that belonged to his mother in her hair. Now the question is why is his mother’s hair pin on a dead woman’s head? He reluctantly agrees to help her, but soon they find out that it is not a typical death, and the entire city seems off somehow…

It’s actually good, honestly. I don’t like historical or period dramas if you wish, mainly because I don’t get any of the society and whatever that involves. Actually the entire “after death” was much easier to understand, even though it was my first time hearing about it, than the society of the Joseon Korea. Like, it’s so easy being called a traitor, heck death happens ALL the time, by simply 2-3 words, ridiculous. Anyway.. I love Shin Min Ah, I love Lee Jun Ki, and I love them together, LOL. Good actors make good drama, so I did look forward to it, and enjoyed it. I have to admit, I was bored when the “bad guys” came on screen, but all in all, pretty enjoyable. Also I found myself on edge, and totally hyper of the Magistrat, while he kicks ass - politically aswell as physically. Hehe.. To sum up, I recommend!

Sad Movie Movie Review

Title: Sad Movie
Genre: Romance, Melodrama
Origin: Korea
Release date: October 20, 2005
Cast: Jung Woo Sung, Im Soo Jung, Cha Tae Hyun, Yeom Jeong Ah, Shin Min Ah, Son Tae Young, Lee Ki Woo and Yeo Jin Goo

Lee Jin Woo (Jung Woo Sung) is a firefighter that works extra hard on his job. Wanting to pop the question for his girlfriend Ahn Soo Jung (Im Soo Jung) a news caster who is waiting for it, he is waiting for just the right moment, only to screw it up by losing the ring. Soo Jungs sister, Ahn Soo Eun (Shin Min Ah) is deaf and works in an amusement park, as a costume character. She falls for an artist Sang Gyu (Lee Ki Woo) in the park, but is afraid to take of her mask due to a scar on her face. Choi Seok Hyun (Son Tae Young) works as a part-timer in a convenience store, and breaks up with her boyfriend Jung Ha Suk (Cha Tae Hyun) for not having a job for the last 3 years. That makes Ha Suk finds a job, where he helps other couples split. Yeom Ju Young (Yeom Ju Young) is a working mother who has a bad relationship with her son Park Hee Chan (Yeo Jin Goo) due to her working all the time, but when illness hits her and she is hospitalized, things change..

Hmm, good storyline, star packed and greatly acted, so why don’t I love it? Firstly, too obvious because of the name (I knew that someone was going to die), second, the name, who calls a movie “Sad Movie”?! At first I thought the translation was off, but really it is “sadu mubi2 or something like that... silly.. Okay... thirdly, most of the script was little tacky, I couldn’t really deal with that, so it became long, just a bit too long. I was just expecting some things to happen, and I get bored if they take too long to happen. All in all, a good k-movie, but not my type…

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho Review

Title: My Girlfriend is a Gumiho
AKA: My Girlfriend is Nine-Tailed Fox
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Fantasy
Episodes: 16
Broadcast period: 2010-Aug to 2010-Sep
Cast: Lee Seung Gi, Shin Min Ah, No Min Woo and Park Soo Jin.

Calling Cha Dae Woong (Lee Seung Gi) arrogant isn’t quite the right word; he is a spoilt airhead to be exact. Ever since little he has seen his grandfather as some sort of money-bank, so when he asked about his future or what he plans to do with his life, he simply replies by saying that his grandfather has a lot of money. Because of the death of his parents, both his grandfather and aunt have been ignoring the selfishness, and most of his friends mooch off of him, except his two best friends. He is an ‘actor-to-be’, or he is going to acting college, and has finally the opportunity to become a star, much to his grandfathers displease.
One day, his grandfather is fed up, and decides to take him to a ‘special’ school, something like a military school. but Dae Woong manages to escape only to end up at a temple where a story about a Gumiho, a nine-tailed fox that eats human livers, lives.
The Gumiho (Shin Min Ah) is locked in a painting in the temple, and as an airhead Dae Woong is, she uses him to get out. On the outside, fleeing for his life, Dae Woong falls down a hill and almost breaks his back, but is saved by Gumiho, who gives him her bead, something like a part of her soul that helps her heal and gives her supernatural abilities. As Dae Woong wakes up, he gets to know the Gumiho, and she does not hide the fact that she is a Gumiho, even though Dae Woong doesn’t believe her. She then decides to not only follow him, but also to prove to him that she is a Gumiho by showing him her tailes, making Dae Woong terrified of her.
Back at the temple another apperent ‘non-human’ appears, Park Dong Joo (No Min Woo) who is some sort of hunter, and wants to catch the Gumiho.
To complicate matters, Eun Hye In (Park Soo Jin), Dae Woong’s noona and crush gets suspicious of the new girl, and tries to “figure her out”.

The moment I started this drama, I fell in love. The comedy was just the right amount, not cheasy and not silly, just perfect. You know, Korean dramas are brilliant because of their extreme lovestories, though 95% suck, the special 5% move you so deeply that you’d wish the drama never finishes. This is one of those. One, where you get nervous when they do, happy when they do and not to mention sad when they do. And honestly, they have to give Lee Seung Gi some award for being perfect as the mix of classical Korean hero/lead and modern humor sorce. The female actress did her job as Gumiho without flaw, and I TOTALLY bought is :P
One more thing I liked was the new personalities of the lead actors. The usual lead actor: arrogant/spoilt rich kid, and usual lead actress: strong/wilful poor girl. This time around it’s different, and these two don’t change each other, they learn from each other.
A complete and total recommendation, and OH! Cain & Abel has been knocked down from its pedestal -> This is officially my favourite Korean drama 
