Another Parting Review

Title: Another Parting
AKA: Some Kind of Goodbye / What Kind of Goodbye
Genre: Romance, Melodrama, Fantasy, Action, Web Drama
Episodes: 5
Broadcast period: 2014-Feb to 2014-Feb
Cast: Seo In Guk, Wang Ji Won, Choi Dae Hoon and Oh Cho Hee.

Sent to earth on a mission, alien (Seo In Guk) takes over a human body and is given the task to find out why humans cry. Only given a day he isn’t sure how to do the mission, but is told that many of the prior ‘agents’ failed their missions and didn’t manage to come back. That would happen to him as well of he doesn’t find out in 24 hours. Whilst roaming the streets, he meets Seo Ha Na (Wang Ji Won), standing on a bridge, crying. This gives him hope, believing he can be able to find the reason for humans to be crying. But when she steps on to the fence of the bridge wanting to jump down, the alien manages to stop her. And so begins the story of the heartbroken woman, and the alien…

I have no idea what I was expecting, and I have no idea what the hell this was about. The beginning makes sense, sort of, but somehow the last episode was just weird and I have no idea what went down. I like that In Guk and Ji Won did a great job, really well acted, but that is it. Nothing in this drama works for me. And yes, I know it’s a web drama, but still it should make sense.
Anyhow, it is short and well-acted, but yeah that is it. If you ever watch it, do tell me what you thought of it. And please explain to me what it is about.

Aftermath Review

Title: Aftermath
Genre: Mystery, Web drama, Fantasy, Romance
Episodes: 11
Broadcast period: 2014-Jan to 2014-Jan
Cast: Dong Joon, Kim Geun Hyung, Seon Joo Ah and Kim Min Seok.

This drama is a short web drama with 11 episodes of 8 min each.
After falling from the rooftop of a building Ahn Yong Dae (Dong Joon) is sent to the emergency room and is in a coma for some days. While in a comatose he dreams of a field of flowers, and imagines how he lies on it, completely infatuated by the smell. Waking up he sees his mother sitting next to him, and shortly after he is allowed to go home. On the way home he witness’ a couple fight and is shocked to see that their faces have turned completely white, and their eyes red. Seconds after the male gets hit by a car, and while being unable to get his eyes of the girl he pulls her away, saving her life, and surprisingly the eye color and skin color had changed back. Freaked out by this he runs back to the hospital, looking for answers, only to be repulsed by the smell of the doctor. When he tries to ignore the incident he encounters even more of them, only to be more and more confused by seeing people with blue eyes.
When he enters a coffee shop he meets a man who has the same ability, telling him that the people with red eyes are people who are going to die soon, and the people with blue eyes are people who have the intention of killing. Also when a person talks he can see whether or not they are lying, by the smell of the way they are talking.
This makes Yong Dae want to save other people especially after the man challenges him that he will kill people because he can, and Yong Dae unexpectedly becomes the hero of his city. Though somehow fame changes him…

Besides it being insanely short, this drama is quite interesting. I don’t know why it was so short, it most defiantly could have been a long 16 episode drama if you just made more stories and spent a little more time on dialogs, but it was not all that bad. Dong Joon is quite the actor, which I did not expect him to be and I sort of was attached to his character, which I have no idea why. The end made me quite irritated and I was seriously hoping that there would be more, not a lot more, just maybe another episode. But then again I am not sure what would have been in that episode. I don’t know the other cast but they were quite good as well, and basically the drama was a good thing to starts a canon.
All in all: a great idea.

Twenty Years Old Review

Title: Twenty Years Old
AKA: 20’s / 20 Years Old
Genre: Romance
Episodes: 4
Broadcast period: Jan-2014 to Jan-2014
Cast: Lee Ki Kwang, Lee Da In, Kim Hye Ji and Kang Tae Oh.

After getting her heart broken by her sunbae whom she had been admiring and crushing on Kim Hye Rim (Lee Da In), goes through a self-pity crisis, not caring how she look, and eating all the fast food available. When her roommate and best friend sees it, she takes her to a concert where the performing artists are BEAST, where one of the members in Lee Ki Kwang (Lee Ki Kwang) whom Hye Rim had gone to middle school with. But what Hye Rim doesn’t tell her roommate is that was her best friend and first love, who had taken a kiss from her but didn’t man up to it.
After the concert she by accident makes a fool of herself in front of Ki Kwang, but he seems not to remember her, until she gets a message from him. This becomes the love story of an idol and regular person..

Wow: that is all I can think of. Not that it was a groundbreaking drama, but it was well acted and so honest I think I completely fell for it. It is only 4 episodes of 20 min, but it somehow felt complete, even though I really wouldn’t mind more episodes. Ki Kwang was adorable and surprisingly good - I don’t remember him being this good of an actor. And the female lead Lee Da In was great too, really well acted.
I like that the story had a true feel, like not with the typical Korean drama feel, but somehow it felt like we were watching a real-life story.
I totally recommend this! Go! Go watch it now!
