Father is Strange Review

Title: Father is Strange
AKA: My Father is Weird
Genre: Family, Drama, Comedy
Episodes: 52
Broadcast Period: Mar-2017 to Aug-2017
Cast: Kim Yong Chul, Kim Hae Sook, Min Jin Woong, Lee Yoo Ri, Lee Joon, Ryu Hwa Young, Jung So Min,

This drama is about a family that lives on the outskirts of Seoul. Byun Han Soo (Kim Young Chul) is the father and his wife, Na Young Sil (Kim Hae Sook) is a dedicated, responsible mother to his three daughters and one son including Hye Young (Lee Yoo Ri), Mi Young (Jung So Min), Ra Young (Ryu Hwa Young) and Joon Young (Min Jin Woong).
Suddenly one day, Ahn Joong Hee (Lee Joon) shows up at the household, and declares that he is the son of the family. Ahn Joong Hee is an actor who used to be a member of an idol group. He gets accepted into the family and begins to live with them…

This was seriously a wonderful drama, loved it from 1 to 52. Maybe this statement is based on my still hyped emotions of it, but I just feel that this one captured a really special place in my heart. Maybe because it focused so much on the family relationships, and had some sprinkles of romance here and there, however the main theme kept shining out throughout the drama. The actors did a pretty decent job; they all were expressful of their character and made you love them and hate them at times. What I mostly like about this, is that it’s not like a typical family drama were they drag the whole point till the end, no, they reveal everything in the beginning, and you just enjoy seeing the story unfold with it. I’m definitely stating another family drama soon, I get so addicted to it, because I get so much more time with the characters, and I can truly see them develop, and I think that’s what makes the whole time worth for me.

Wang Family Review

Title: Wang Family
AKA: The Wang Family / Wang’s Family / Family of King / Royal Family / King’s Family
Genre: Family, Romance, Comedy, Melodrama
Episodes: 50
Broadcast period: 2013-Aug to 2014-Feb
Cast: Jang Yong, Kim Hae Sook, Oh Hyun Kyung, Jo Sung Ha, Lee Tae Ran, Oh Man Suk, Lee Yoon Ji and Han Joo Wan.

This story follows a family with four generations.
The Wang family is a typical Korean family with a head, vice-president of a school Wang Bong (Jang Yong) and his money appreciative wife Lee Ang Geum (Kim Hae Sook). Together they had 4 daughters and one son: Wang Soo Bak (Oh Hyun Kyung) the oldest and mother favorite, who got married wealthy to a business man Go Min Joong (Jo Sung Ha), and doesn’t know any form of house holding. Wang Ho Bak (Lee Tae Ran) the second oldest who had a shot-gun wedding due to her pregnancy with jobless Heo Se Dal (Oh Man Suk), and worked as a slave for many years so that her family could get an apartment. Even though she is the hardworking one in the family, her mother seems to dislike especially her. Wang Gwang Bak (Lee Yoon Ji) is the second youngest who gave up her teaching job so she could follow her dream as a writer, but meets mechanical engineer Choi Sang Nam (Han Joo Wan) and sparks fly.
The story follows the three sisters as they are confronted with subjects as love, marriage, divorce, infidelity, poverty and status…

I started this because I like the actor Oh Man Suk, and I ended up finishing because of Lee Yoon Ji. It is one of those drama where we get a lot of problems because of the family and they all get involved in every issue. Honestly I don’t dislike this theme, but I kind of get annoyed along the way. Though it first happened around episode 35 in this drama, I kind of got bored along the way.
The family and the characters are vibrant and they are both likeable and frustrating at the same time, which sometimes makes you want to either kill them or hug them.
I liked it, and I got myself a new favorite actress which is nice.
So to sum up: a good daily drama with interesting characters.

Tough As Iron Movie Review

Title: Tough As Iron
Genre: Drama, Gangster, Action, Romance
Origin: South Korea
Release date: October 2013
Cast: Yoo Ah In, Kim Hae Sook, Jung Yu Mi, Kim Jung Tae, Kim Sung Oh, Lee Si Un,

Gang Chul (Yoo Ah In) was the big shot in high school, the guy nobody would dare take on. Now he is working hard labour while running after his mother (Kim Hae Sook), trying to take care of her. She has Alzheimer's and often gets lost around in town while going around playing and getting lost in past. Gang Chul's friend Jung Soo (Lee Si Un) works with the mafia, as a dept collector. He as well tries to get by, doing any job he can. Unlike Jung Soo, Gang Chul doesnt want to have anything to do with the mafia as he believes they ruin people's life while promising them money. However his mother's state worsens and on top of that he reluctantly gets involved in a case of murder.

As the movie starts, it has that nice feeling of a great movie. The lovely mother-son relationship makes the whole sadness seem just a bit sweeter. There are a bunch of nice scenes and as a fan of Ah In aah I really did enjoy it. However.... the whole mafia story was a bit weak or not so well portrayed. The whole idea makes sense yes but in the end, it didnt feel that well made. Might just be me and my high standards when it comes to action/gangster stuff. The movie though, not bad. But not amazing either. Not the first movie I would recommend but if you are a fan of Ah In then yes go ahead and watch it. It has sweet moments, sad moment (like you really want to cry when it comes to the mother-son thing) and action as well. The friendship though I think it was a "bad" friendship I can pretty much say it is realistic as to thats what would happen most likely.
