Heart To Heart Review

Title: Heart to heart
Genre: Romance, Comedy, Medical
Episodes: 16
Broadcast period: 2015-Jan to 2015-Feb
Cast: Choi Kang Hee, Chun Jung Myung, Lee Jae Yoon and Ahn So Hee.

Cha Hong Do (Choi Kang Hee) is an incredibly smart woman suffering from extreme blushing, which made her get social phobia, and eventually she became a hermit. She used to live with her grandmother who became her supporter and eyes to the outside world, but once she died so did Hong Do’s life outside of her house. The only way she’d be able to leave the house is if she wears a helmet, and even then she rarely leaves her house. One of the reasons she does leave her house is Jang Doo Soo (Lee Jae Yoon), a police officer she has a crush on, and will do almost anything in order to take a glance at, but is unable to speak to. Another problem is money: if she is unable to work how will she pay her rent? This she manages by dressing up as an old lady, and doing to housework for a rich household.
One day she reads a book written by Doctor Ko Yi Suk (Chun Jung Myung), a renowned psychologist, who owns his own office. In the book he gives hope to people, and surprisingly Hong Do, who believed that she would never be cured, goes to his office to get help from him. But the first scene Hong Do sees is Yi Suk holding a pen inside a patient’s throat. She immediately accuses him of attempted murder.
After almost losing everything, his job, office and mental state, Yi Suk tries to kill himself, but is saved by Hong Do - who has returned to get help from Hong Do. But being the arrogant and selfish man he is Yi Suk makes fun of her, and yet declares to be able to cure her... what’s it going to be?

This drama was quite enjoyable, even though I dislike Choi Kang Hee. Amazingly Chun Jung Myung is able to make her not only interesting, but also likeable - so in the long run I kind of liked seeing her. The two have one of the best chemistries of 2015, and even though the drama doesn’t have one continuing dilemma - like 99% of the Korean dramas out there, it does its job quite well. I really liked the story, and the psychological part - from all angles. I even liked the secondary couple too, even though it took them a bit to get started.
The overall drama is enjoyable, and even if I rated it 4, I would recommend it for people liking these kinds of dramas.

Kamji’s Verdict
So this is one of the hidden gemstones in dramaworld. Seriously, it has all the signs that says: “stay away, don’t look. I’m just an ordinary kdrama, meh don’t even bother”. What those signs are? First: A girl that can’t socialize with the rest of humankind. Like seriously, what kind of lame story is that gonna be?! Second: Choi Kang Hee, nope, that would never work out good. Third: It wasn’t a recognized drama in Korea (never trust those ratings, but still… it doesn’t encourage either).
Oh wait… I said this is a hidden gemstone, because IT IS! I had no idea when I started watching this drama that I would love it so much. Emotional roller coaster, one of the best stories out there, and how bluntly honest the leads were with each other, seriously astounded me. They clear the misunderstanding fast and didn't drag on, not even a second. Chun Jung Myung is one of the most natural actors. His portrayal of Yi Seok is emotional and I was completely mesmerized in his character.
I will probably rewatch this at some point.

Reset Review

Title: Reset
AKA: RR
Genre: Crime, Mystery, Thriller
Episodes: 10
Broadcast period: 2014-Aug to 2014-Oct
Cast: Chun Jung Myung, Kim So Hyun, Park Won Sang, Shin Eun Jung, Song Ha Yoon, Kim Hak Chul, Choi Jae Woong

15 years ago, a girl was brutally murdered right before Cha Woo Jins (Chun Jung Myung) eyes, she was no other than his first love Seung Hee (Kim So Hyun). Obsessed he starts to look for the criminal, he even became a prosecutor in hope one day he would lock him behind bars. Now he only has 10 days to solve the crime before the statute of limitation on the case runs out. Then he meets a 15-years old high school girl named Jo Eun bi (Kim So Hyun), who looks exactly like Seung Hee. With their meeting comes new clues about old crime and closer to uncovering the truth, but little did they know, that now Jo Eun Bi became the new target.

I watched this because I love crime thrillers and apparently, OCN is the only channel that does it well in Korea. The story about finding the murder of his first love and time is running out is not new in dramaland, but I liked the excellent acting and top-notch mystery-solving, and that’s what made this one good. This drama was a little different from the other OCN dramas, and that is it only focused on the main problem, nothing else. To approach the drama that way had its positive and negative side effects, the positive was that we got all our questions answered, but the negative was that it got ‘heavy’ sometimes, that we actually needed something else to focus on, a side story or something. Although I wouldn’t criticize it for that, just… So you know ;)
All in all, it’s only 10 episodes, so if you are a mystery, thriller, crime fan like me, this would be an ideal drama for you!

Bunji's Verdit
Ehem, out of all OCN dramas this one should be forgotten. Not because it’s bad, but it should not be an OCN drama. It really took me forever to finish, mainly because there was nothing keeping me to watch it till the end, except Chun Jung Myung who despite the ridiculous plot and boring story made this drama watchable. His acting was all worth it, and honestly I don’t remember anything else beside him in this drama. Having a prosecutor-drama or crime drama if you want, hypnosis is one of the things you do not add as it is completely useless in court and under law. I don’t know if this scriptwriter thought about it, but if a prosecutor uses hypnosis under an interrogation he could lose his license.. SO WHY. I really don’t understand why it would be such a big part of the plot, and okay I guess I know why, but why use it as his job. Like he didn’t win any of his cases, so they decided to focus the drama on his lost memories? Like what. And they girl Soo Hyun acts is ridiculous too, and useless. I have no idea why they would add her there.
Anyways, is it recommendable? Naah, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Glory Jane Review

Title: Glory Jane
Also known as: Man of Honor / Young Kwang's Jae In / Young Love Jane
Genre: Romance
Episodes: 24
Broadcast period: 2011-Oct to 2011-Dec
Cast:  Chun Jung Myung, Park Min Young and Lee Jang Woo

Kim Young Kwang (Chun Jung Myung) is a falling baseball player, who is thrown into the minor league after a fight with top star Seo In Woo (Lee Jang Woo), and is told that he only has two months to show his worth or he’ll be thrown out of the team. After an accident in a game he is brought to the hospital, but with the twist of fate In Woo is also brought to the hospital with an broken nose. Young Kwang is ignored, even though he is almost dying, but is noticed by Yoon Jane (Park Min Young) an aide nurse, who runs to the doctor in charge and manages to save Young Kwang, only for him to find out that he needs two months to finish his recovery, which means no chance to return to the baseball field. Yoon Jane on the other hand is ecstatic about Young Kwang, telling him that she is his number one fan, after watching him make a homerun when she was younger.
When Jane’s nun from her orphanage shows up and gives her the letters of her father, Jane finally believes that she can reunite with him, only to find out that it is Young Kwangs father. This starts war at home, with the entire family refusing to accept her, and Young Kwangs father refusing to tell the family anything. But the truth is something else: betrayal.

Lol, sorry for the dramatic review, didn’t really mean it : P. I have to admit it’s somewhat refreshing, this drama. I don’t know haven’t watched this kind of drama before, so I sort of enjoyed it, even though it takes a lot of time to finish, I mean really, LONG. The acting was good, the chemistry is not that good, I mean they act as if they were in love, but you don’t really feel it, and I sort of believe it is Park Min Young’s fault: felt the same as City Hunter. I don’t know if it just by coincident or that she refuses to do anything like that, but I really wish for her to at least talk to any of her love interests. I mean kiss, or at least hug. Really ruins your view of the couple.
Anyways, a fresh Korean drama, or at least not a totally draggy one.
