My Little Bride Movie Review

Title: My Little Bride
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Origin: Korea
Release date: 2004-Apr-01
Cast: Moon Geun Young and Kim Rae won.

Having their families knowing each other for generations, the teaser and somewhat pervert Park Sang min (Kim Rae won) and the sassy but innocent Seo Bo eun (Moon Geun Young) basically grew up together. When Sang min returns to Korea, after being told that Be oun’s grandfather (he calls him grandfather too) is sick, the two of them are told to get married. Because Bo eun is much younger than Sang min (she’s 15), and still a high school student, everyone is against it, especially Bo eun, since she has fallen for her schools baseball ace, and finally is able to date him. After long protests the two of them are eventually forced into marriage, but Bo eun has a plan: date her crush without anyone finding out about her housebound, which becomes problematic after Sang min starts as the new teacher.

I’m sitting here and having one question in mind: how did this manage to be the second most popular Korean movie of 2004? Yeah, it’s fun, but it wasn’t all that… I felt it was lacking, and not to mention slow. On the other hand, very 90’s.. but this is released in 2004`? Doesn’t make sense.. The lead couple is brilliant though, not to mention Kim Rae Won, he actually outshined Moon Geun Young… Do you believe it?
Okay, it’s not like the movie sucks, it is good, and picks up the pace occasionally, and you don’t hate it in the end, or I didn’t anyway :P

Innocent Steps Movie Review

Title: Innocent Steps
Genre: Romance
Origin: Korea
Release date: 2005-Apr-28
Cast: Moon Geun Young, Park Geon Hyeong and Yun Chang.

In the finals of the Korean Dance Championship Na Young-sae (Park Geon Hyeong), full of feeling for revenge, provokes his rival Jung Hyun soo (Yun Chang), which ends up bad for Young sae, not only does he loose, he gets injured and refuses to return to dancing. After the incident, his boss (which I think is some form of gangster), tells him about a Chinese dancer, Jang Chae min, who not only is good but has won awards before, the only problem is he has to register a ’fake marriage’ so she can stay. After he picks her up, and the two register, Young sae finds out that she is in fact Chae-mins little sister, Jang Chae rin (Moon Geun Young), who not only does know how to dance, but has almost zero talent in learning it. But in order to win in the next competition, he decides to teach her, which is the beginning of a beautiful love story.

I have to say my review doesn’t really make the movie justice, it’s actually better than how it’s written. Honestly, a good movie, I don’t know if I’m starting to fall for Korean movies, but this one is pretty neat, and it has the ’fururu’ feeling in your stomach. The cast is great, both male and female, and damn they can dance.
One thing sort a blew it, the last 30-40min were a bit dull-- okay, the last 20 were quite cute, but I felt it was a bit draggy. The story was great too, actually recommendable : )

Wi Mae Ri (Moon Geun Young) is a young girl who lost her mother at young age and whose father has been chased by debtcollectors for several years. Even though living such a life with many obstacles she manages to keep her spirits high and is always cheerful. One day she accidently hits a young man, Kang Mu Gyul, while driving (not driving fast but she still hit him). She starts chasing him so he can sign that it is not her fault so that he later on cant report her because if he did she would lose money and she cannot afford it. The problem is that Kang mu Gyul doesnt sign anything since he doesnt trust people because he has been betrayed but people (mostly his ex-manager). The two of them get to know each other. Meanwhile, Mae Ri's father meets his old friend and the friend tell him that he will pay all his debts if he agrees to let his daugther marry his son. The father agrees but Mae Ri has other plans. She does not want an arranged marriage so she convinces Mu Gyul to play her husband and tell her father that she is in love and she has married someone else. But her fathers friend doesnt want to give up that easily so they make a deal. A 100 day contract. Mae Ri has to spend 100 days with Mu Gyul and her-father's-friend's-son and then when the 100 days are up she has to chose between the two of them.

The dramas two lead roles are played by two of my favorite actors Moon Geun Young and Jang Geun Suk, though i might have expected a little bit too much of this drama. The story is new for me but it still wasnt really tht interesting. I mean it wasnt bad, it was fun while watching it but it wasnt "WOW!" haha. It needed something more,, something to spice it up. Also there wasnt as much comedy in it as i would want there to be. It i werent for the actors i might even have given it up because its a.. okay drama. And i dont like watching those! if you'r gonna watch might as well watch something more WoWish. But the good thing is that the love lines are very clear and who they love and who they wanna go for and it not like they go back and forth. Thank God! :P

Bunji's Verdict

I actually didn’t expect much of this drama, mainly because people said to watch Secret Garden instead and Jenji rated it low; I think that’s what made me love it. It had all elements in making it a good drama, and I enjoyed every part of it. I felt I could relate to the characters, and not to mention understand them. Surprisingly I liked all the characters, even the ‘bad’ guys, and the entire supporting cast. Jang Geun Suk is perfect; the director was smart, choosing him, because he does every one of his scenes with credibility, and he even fixes all the small errors in the drama, which you would hate. But I can’t say that the other actors are bad; the four main actors do a splendid job.
I don’t think I have anything bad to say about it, except it being a bit heavy towards the end, but the final ending is good, better than those ‘and they lived happily ever after’. More realistic, and cute.
To sum up, I totally recommend it. I have no clue why Jenji rated it so low. Maybe the tables are turning? Im becoming ‘the nice one’, whereas Jenji is being ‘the critical one’? Hahah, anyhow, fun – without being ridicules, romantic – without being mushy, and interesting – without being confusing :)

Cinderella's Sister Review

Title: Cinderella's Sister
AKA: Cinderella Unni / A Modern Story of Revenge
Genre: Romance, melodrama
Episodes: 20
Broadcast period: 2010-Mar-31 to 2010-Jun-03
Cast: Moon Geun Young, Seo Woo, Chun Jung Myung, Taecyeon aso.

Song Eun Jo and her mother have always been moving around, they survive with the money of the mother's men. Then one day the mother meets a man whose daughter wants her as her mother because she lost her mother when she was a child and cause the man owns a rice wine fabric and got money the mother thinks its a great opportunity for them so she agrees to get married with the man. Eun Jo's new stepsister is like really crazy about her like "unni, unni, unni.." all the time. And Eun Jo hates it so she is like being mean to her all the time and tries to push her away but she doesnt give up until Eun Jo pretends to steal the guy she likes at their school. In the mean time Eun Jo is developing feelings for a young guy Ki Hoon who works at the fabric for her stepfather. But she's a girl that doesnt really show feelings and people see her as cold, but the guy is being nice to her, he is also the girl's home tutor. Anyway the guy goes of to serve army duty and Eun Jo then tries to run away but her stepfather is like the nicest man and he convinces her to stay. Then 8 years pass and they get a little brother.. Eun Jo has become a woman who's like got really great education and is successful and the fabric is all doing really well and but there are still problems within the family especially between the two sisters. Then Ki Hoon comes back and he asks Eun Jo why didnt she stop him from going, and didnt she get his letter(her stepsister hid it). But Eun Jo is ignoring him and pretending like she doesnt even know him. And then Jung Woo (taec) comes to work at the fabric too. Eun Jo doesnt recognize him at first but then she finds out and Jung Woo he is like really hardworking cause he wants Eun Jo to be with him so he is like always helping her and being there for her. Then the fabric gets lots of problems and the father gets sick and they all get sick and problematic and the problems never stop and everything is like GAAAAAH! I dont wanna expose the whole thing so ill end it here or... yeah.

This is one of those really sad dramas. It like gets really complicated. And i like sad dramas but not that sad. Hahahah or well. Its okay that its sad but i dont like loong sad dramas (yes 20 is long for me) i guess i've gotten use to those really short Japanese dramas. Korean dramas are in my opinion reaaally complicated like.. aiyaa.. And this girl Eun Jo she like cant express her feelings so we get nowhere. The whole drama is about her and her stepsister's relationship and how the finally gives in and actually acts nice to her and then again its only because she starts feeling sorry for her because their mother was only nice to her because of her father's money but later on the father isnt there so she gets really mean. I think it was a bit to much, it took really long for them to get close to each other but i guess that's just wht the whole drama is about. Other than that its really good and like REALLY emotional. Its definitely one of those good korean dramas and its one of those u gotta watch. And its a good idea.. like seeing it from 'cinderella''s sister's point of view. A totally different story than the original cinderella. And actually the main character is my favorite korean actress. MmmHm! And not to mention taec. Now im not a big fan of him. But what u see in the drama aint bad! :P But at first i didnt like the guy Ki Hoon AT ALL! not until like.. the end. Mayb like,, when Eun Jo started accepting him then i did too, haha.

Bunji's Verdict
I honestly promised myself never to watch this drama, mainly because I knew it was one of the heaviest dramas ever made, and I wasn’t into the entire Cinderella’s sister thing. But after watching Glory Jane, I had to watch Chun Jung Myung’s drama again, he’s kind a lovable. And I didn’t mind Moon Geun Young at all, so why not?
Tbh, it really is one heavy cry after cry drama; it’s to the point of you getting depressed! Like if I would’ve gotten paid for every single crying scene, I wouldn’t need a job, ever! And you know those leads where you just feel like shaking them so hard just to make some freaking progress? Yup, I felt like that every 5 minutes. I have to admit though, I really enjoyed the sister rivalry; the showdowns were brilliant! And there were times when I liked the supporting actress more, but honestly they were both so freaking annoying!
Hmm, on the other hand, this drama has EVERYTHING, from an amazing script, amazing actors to amazing screenplay and realistic people… Like even Cinderella got fed up :P hehe..
If you are wondering about Taec, well, I don’t really remember his character, only when he would salute :/
